Marek Kądziela Jazz Ensemble brings together markedly different musical approaches. Its elegant, carefully structured jazz is offset by dynamic accents, the restless energy of free jazz and an ethereal, ambient quality. The stylistic variety remains coherent through the leader’s vision. The guitar serves both as a foundation and as a link between the elements, while leaving the other musicians considerable freedom to shape the sound. The rich sonorities and intricate compositions show Kądziela’s versatility and his commitment to fresh, unexpected solutions. The project performs as a trio, quartet or quintet, with leading Polish jazz musicians including Cyprian Baszyński, Maciej Kądziela, Adam Zagórski, Jacek Namysłowski and Paweł Puszczało.
HUNGER PANGS II
Hunger Pangs is a meeting place for experimentation and unrestricted imagination. Built on a longstanding friendship between three experienced artists, each with a distinctive personality, the project brings together surprising compositions, collective improvisation, daring melodic structures and an uncompromising fusion of sonorism and electronics. Hunger Pangs ‘II’ presents the music of the trio’s second album.
Odpoczno
Founded in 2014, Odpoczno comprises experienced musicians from Łódź whose backgrounds span improvised music, alternative rock and Polish traditional music. The music of the Opoczno region became their common ground. Seeking a raw, original sound and a connection with their musical roots, they combine contemporary improvisation with the vitality of village music-making. Odpoczno won an award at Polish Radio’s Nowa Tradycja competition in 2015. Their originality and direct sound have won audiences at numerous Polish festivals. In 2018 they were the only Polish group selected to perform at WOMEX in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Their debut album, released by Audio Cave in March 2018, was immediately hailed as one of the year’s important musical events.
Kądziela & Wójciński „10 Little Stories”
The music on this album is a collection of stories in which friendship is both the central theme and the substance. From that friendship comes an extraordinary understanding between the musicians. Composition and improvisation merge into a single whole. The music is imbued with serenity, and its many open-ended suggestions leave a compelling sense of incompleteness that teaches us to listen afresh. Nobody needs to prove anything: there is simply harmony.
Marek Kądziela ADHD feat. Rudi Mahall
Alongside the leader, this quartet features an icon of European jazz, clarinettist Rudi Mahall. The rhythm section consists of outstanding Danish musicians Andreas Lang on double bass and Kasper Tom Christiansen on drums. ADHD performs original music at the intersection of European jazz and improvisation, with surprising melodies, dynamic rhythms and ironic references to grunge classics such as Nirvana.
